5 Signs A Girlfriend Should Not Drive Your Car

While writing this story I came across an interesting article on the topic which gender made for worse drivers. According to a study from the Insurance Information Institute men are more likely than women to break traffic laws, drive under the influence, and be involved in accidents, including fatal ones.  Most notably, women cruising and boozing is up 14.3% from 1998 to 2007 compared to men is down 19.7%. I’ll just call this survey shenanigans because obviously men drive more than women.

Females' DUIs up 14.3%:
Year DUIs Drivers % with DUIs
1998 126,119 91,875,439 0.14%
2007 162,493 103,276,909 0.16

Males' DUIs down 19.7%:
Year DUIs Drivers % with DUIs
1998 676,911 93,104,738 0.73%
2007 626,371 102,464,936 0.61

Especially when leasing a car you should take note of these red flags before you let someone drive your car.

Signs of Bad Driving From Your Girlfriend:

1.) Is she easily distracted? For example, your girlfriend is a graphic designer and every billboard or advertising sign on the road, she slows down to take a picture of it.

2.) Does she not pay attention to speed limits? Some highlights from the Allstate Insurance Co - 48% of women readily admitted they are likely to speed more than 10 m.p.h over the limit, versus 36% of men. 16% of girls describe their driving as aggressive, up from 9% in 2005.

3) She doesn’t brake when she sees brake lights ahead. I can personally speak to seeing this happen time and time again with my girlfriend and I quote from her “I do not brake until I see the lights in front of the car in front of me brake. Then and only then I know to brake.

4) Does she drive with two feet. Using the right foot for the pedal and left foot for the brake is a recipe for failure. Subconsciously if her foot touches the brake pedal even slightly, it can light the brake lights and is dangerous to other drivers who have no idea why she is braking.

5) Does she try to audition for American Idol while driving? I would estimate close to 95% of drivers listen to the radio while in the car. If your girlfriend is trying to sign and drive, what’s going to happen? She’s paying attention to carefully choreographing her singing instead of focusing on the road.
