Top Ten Reasons People Text Instead of Talk

Back in October, LeaseTrader.com polled 3000 men and women drivers to find out what other driving distractions are more dangerous than texting while driving(LeaseTrader Survey: Children More Distracting Than Texting).

A Nielson study from 2008 reported that in the U.S. today, about 200 million of the 259 million wireless subscribers lines subscribe to or purchase text-message capability. Of these, 138 million (or 53% of all mobile subscribers) use text-messaging on a regular basis). In fact, text-messaging has become so popular and pervasive that U.S. mobile subscribers now send and receive more text-messages in a month than they do phone calls.

I hear a lot of people complain about how much they see people texting, or how their friends never stop, but I, much like your annoying friends, know the truth. So here are the top 10 reasons why texting is totally awesome.

Top Ten Reasons People Text Instead of Talk

  1. Effort – To talk on the phone you need to raise your phone all the way to your ear. To send a text message its only like chest height. Unless you have one of those Bluetooth ear things, but you don’t count because I for one am afraid of androids because Will Smith tells me so.

  2. Emotionless Communication – Talking on the phone is emotionally draining. That’s why your girlfriend likes doing it to you so much. Hang up and sent that bitch a smiley face. Bitches LOOOVE smiley faces.

  3. Time is Money – And I love money. A cell phone call can last 10 minutes. A text message lasts 14 seconds and I probably got more information out of the deal anyway. Who needs hellos and goodbyes?

  4. Universal – Texts can be sent from anywhere and at anytime

  5. Memory – Texts can be saved and re-read in order to regain memory of a previous conversation

  6. Not Having to Remember What You Say, Ever – Why remember what you said 5 minutes ago when instead you can look up on your phone what you said 5 minutes ago? Lets see them put words in your mouth when none came out of there in the first place!

  7. Controversy – Texting is a great way to prevent controversy. You don’t need to respond if you don’t feel like arguing

  8. Silence – Texting is a silent act of communication, so unless you forward your texts, it stays between the sender and the recipient

  9. Deletion – If you change your mind about saying something, you have the ability to delete the message before its sent

  10. Evidence – Especially when it comes to cheating, you have the ability to delete all evidence that anything ever happened over text
